珊瑚の島、沖縄。

香水「URU /うる」の名前は、沖縄の古称「うるま」 に由来します。 「うる」は”珊瑚”、「ま」は”島”を意味します。 島々を形成し、豊かな生命を育む珊瑚礁。人々の暮らしは、今も昔も豊穣な海の恵みに支えられ、生かされています。
海、空、森・・・沖縄の自然が織りなす美しい色彩は、 URUの想像の翼を広げてくれます。

The name URU originates from URUMA, the ancient reference to Okinawa. In the name, URU means “coral” and MA refers to “island”. The islands are created by coral and the reefs nurture a rich environment for various species. The lives of the people here continue to be supported and enriched by the blessings of the plentiful seas.
The seas, skies, and forests; the abundant nature of Okinawa and its breathtaking colors are the launching pad for URU, as it spreads its wings of inspiration.

王国の島、沖縄。

沖縄は東シナ海に浮かぶ小さな島ですが 、15世紀から19世紀にかけて琉球という独立した王国を形作り、中国やアジア諸国との交易で栄えました。 1879年 (明治8年)以降、王府解体により日本国となりますが、第二次大戦後、沖縄は日本から分断されアメリカ合衆 国の統治下におかれ1972年に再び日本へ復帰します。
歴史の荒波に翻弄されながらも、沖縄の民衆は独自の伝統文化を継承・発展させ、今日に至っております。

Okinawa; Isle of the Kingdom The prefecture of Okinawa is made up of numerous islands, big and small, that dot the East China Sea. From the 15th to the 19th centuries, the islands were known as the Ryukyus, an independent kingdom that flourished through trade with China and various Asian countries. After the abolition of the kingdom in 1879, the islands became a part of Japan; however, Okinawa was separated from Japan at the close of the Second World War. The islands were under the administration of the United States until 1972, when Okinawa was returned to Japan once again.
Despite the tumultuous waves of history, the people of Okinawa have created and nurtured a very unique traditional culture, and even today, the rich culture of the people are being developed and passed on to the new generations.

近隣諸国との交易を通じて沖縄は多様な文化を吸収し、琉球独自の文化を育んできました。 染織、漆芸、 陶芸、ガラス工芸、組踊(くみおどり)、エイサー、空手など先人の多彩な技を今に受け継いでいます。 中でも民 謡と舞踊は広く庶民に愛され、歌と踊りに欠かせない楽器「三線(サンシン)」の深い響きは、 今も、沖縄人の琴線に触れる古里の音色です。
URUも、香りを奏でる三線でありたいと願います。

Okinawa; Islands of Performing Arts. With numerous and diverse influences from the surrounding countries, Okinawa developed its unique culture through trade in the age of the Ryukyu Kingdom. The beauty of textile dyeing, lacquerware art, glass art, Kumiodori theater art, Eisa drum dancing, and Karate are some of the diverse arts being passed on in the present day. Among the arts, the traditional music and dance have long been cherished by the people. Most enchanting are the resonating sounds of the sanshin, the traditional, three- stringed instrument that accompanies the local songs and dances, echoing deep into the souls of the people, strumming their heartstrings.
It’s our hope that URU will touch the hearts of people with its scents, like the melodies from the sanshin.

沖縄には代表的ハーブ「月桃(げっとう)」をはじめ、 南国特有の香辛料や香草が豊富です。 またマンゴやパイナップルなど香り豊かな熱帯果実にも恵まれ、小さな島に柑橘だけでも30種類以上も栽培されています。 とりわけ琉球王国時代からの古い来歴をもつ「カーブチー」と呼ばれる島みかんは、エネルギーを感じさせる 深いシトラスの香りに特徴があり、“URU”に欠かせない天然香料として生かされています。

Okinawa; Island of Fragrance. Okinawa is rich with various spices and herbs unique to a southern climate, with the gettoh or shell ginger being one of the most famous. The islands are blessed with fragrant tropical fruits like mangoes and pineapples as well, and even on such a small island like Okinawa, there are over 30 varieties of citrus fruits. Among these is the Kabuchi, a local citrus fruit that can be traced back to the Ryukyu Kingdom era. The Kabuchi has a deep citrus scent that is uniquely vibrant, and is an irreplaceable natural fragrance that is brought to life in URU.
